Frequently Asked Questions
What does a doula actually do?
A doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I don’t replace a midwife or doctor, I complement your medical care by offering guidance, comfort measures, and continuous support.
Do you provide medical advice?
No. As a doula, I don’t perform clinical tasks or give medical advice. My role is to support you emotionally, help you understand your options, and guide you to evidence-based information so you can make informed decisions.
What areas do you service?
I support families across Adelaide and surrounding areas. Virtual support is also available for anyone outside my service area.
When should I book a doula?
You can book anytime, but most families reach out between 12–20 weeks. Earlier booking secures availability, especially for birth support.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. I offer flexible payment plan options, so support feels accessible and manageable.
Can I still have a doula if I already have a partner or support person?
Absolutely. I support both you and your partner. Many partners feel more confident with a doula present because it helps them understand how to support you best.
Can you support me if I’m having a planned caesarean?
Yes. Doulas support all birth types, including planned caesareans, VBAC, induction, unmedicated, and medicated births. My role is to help you feel informed, calm, and supported.
Do you support VBAC families?
Yes, VBAC support is one of my main focus areas. I provide evidence-based information, emotional preparation, and guidance throughout your pregnancy and birth.
What if I go into labour at night?
I’m on call for your birth from 37–42 weeks, day and night. You can contact me anytime during this period, and I will come when you need support.
What happens if my labour is very long?
I provide continuous support for as long as you need. If necessary, I may bring in a backup doula for short rest periods, but this is discussed beforehand with full transparency.
Do you offer postpartum-only support?
Yes. You can book postpartum support separately, including feeding support, overnight care, newborn guidance, and emotional support.
What is included in your virtual support?
Virtual support includes video calls, text support, guidance, education, and emotional reassurance, perfect for those outside Adelaide or wanting a lighter package.
Is a doula covered by private health insurance?
Some providers may offer rebates, depending on your policy. It’s always best to check directly with your insurer.
